Have you been wondering whether or not your hearing issues are severe enough to warrant an appointment with an audiologist? Are you curious about whether the things you’re experiencing are just a normal part of “getting older” or if they’re actually cause for concern?

I understand that you’re busy and you don’t want to take time out of your day to be seen for an appointment if there’s no real benefit. I also understand that you want to be able to do all of the things you love without feeling like you’re missing out. So, let’s talk about whether or not your body is trying to tell you something and whether an appointment with one of our audiologists might be helpful.

Let’s Find Out if You Should See an Audiologist

Sign #1 – You Have to Ask People to Repeat Themselves

It can be annoying to have to repeat yourself, but it can be equally annoying to have to ASK people to repeat themselves. This can make conversations uncomfortable and you might be tempted to just pretend that you can hear people so you don’t have to ask them to say it again.

You shouldn’t have to miss out on the chance to connect with others. A hearing aid can help you stay in the conversation without having to fake it or ask people to repeat themselves!

Sign #2 – You Have to Look at Someone While You Talk to Them

Maybe you don’t find yourself needing to ask people to repeat what they said, but you do have to look at their lips while they’re talking to make sure you’re getting everything they’re saying. This is another sign that your hearing health might not be quite where it should be.

There are several reasons why this might be happening, and a hearing assessment with Premiere Speech and Hearing is a great way to get more answers and discuss some ways to deal with the issue.

Sign #3 – You Hear People, You Just Can’t Understand Them

If you find yourself saying things like, “I can hear them talking, I just can’t understand what they’re saying” – this could also be a sign that you’re dealing with undiagnosed hearing loss.

Yes, some people do mumble when they talk, but if this is happening to you fairly often, it might be worth looking into! A lot of our patients are quite surprised when they realize it’s their hearing and NOT the way other people speak to them.

Sign #4 – You’ve Stopped Attending Gatherings or Dining Out

Maybe you’ve decided it’s just easier to avoid situations where it’s especially noisy or there’s a lot of background noise to contend with. This could be your body trying to tell you something.

If you’re having issues hearing in noisy environments, it could be a sign of hearing loss. Our audiologists are equipped to do some simple assessments to determine the presence and severity of these issues, and then offer solutions so you can get back to socializing again!

Sign #5 – The TV Volume is Too Loud for Friends and Family

Is your television so loud that others find it uncomfortable? Are people constantly nagging you to turn down the volume when they’re in the room with you? You deserve to be able to hear what you’re watching… without cranking up the volume so loud that it’s impacting other people.

At Premiere Speech and Hearing, we can assess the level of hearing loss you’re experiencing and then offer solutions that can help you hear the TV better so you aren’t missing out on anything.

Sign #6 – Your Hearing Aids are Stowed Away in a Drawer

Quick question for those who wear hearing aids: where are your hearing aids right now? If they’re in a drawer somewhere, there’s a good chance you need to see us! People stop wearing their hearing aids when their instruments no longer feel beneficial. Don’t worry! Most issues can be fixed with a quick appointment.

You’ve already overcome the biggest obstacle most people face when dealing with hearing loss: acceptance. Now, we want to make sure you are actually wearing them!

Step #7 – You Only Wear Your Hearing Aids When You Have To

If you’re only wearing your hearing aids when you leave the house or when you absolutely have to, that’s another sign that they’re not working as well as they could for you. There’s a reason you’ve decided it’s not worth it to wear them at home. So let’s talk more about that!

You deserve to hear well, no matter where you are or what you’re doing. We can help adjust your hearing aids so they’re both comfortable to wear and help you hear better.

So, how many of these boxes can you check off? If even three or four of these things apply toyou, I think it’s definitely worth making an appointment with us so we can explore further
