Last month, our office hosted Taylor H. for her Career Study program. Every year, seniors at Perkiomen Valley High School have the opportunity to spend the final weeks of the school year out in the community. Students shadow various professionals and learn about their future careers. Taylor will start at the University of Alabama this Fall, studying communication sciences and disorders. She is interested in becoming a Speech-Language Pathologist, so her experience at Premiere was a perfect fit! Here’s what Taylor had to say about her Career Study

“During my last three weeks of high school I had the opportunity to job-shadow at Premiere Speech And Hearing. I shadowed in the Audiology department with Jeni, and in the Speech department with Dani and Kristin. I had an amazing time here and I learned so much! Within just three weeks I saw so much improvement from the weekly patients, and it was amazing to get to see their growth. While shadowing Jeni, my favorite appointment that I got to observe was a hearing test done on a baby! It was fascinating to see how the technology worked and sent sounds at different volumes and pitches to test the baby’s hearing. I plan to further my education in speech pathology, so shadowing Dani and Kristin was such a great opportunity for me to see exactly what the field is like. I loved learning about articulation, vocal cord dysfunction, stuttering, and how growing up bilingual could impact speech development! Another thing I loved observing was evaluations. Watching Dani and Kristin evaluate a patient and then come up with an immediate plan to help them move forward with their speech was so cool! My favorite part about my whole experience at Premiere – and also the reason I want to become a speech pathologist – is getting to watch the excitement in the kids when they get something right or make an improvement! It is so amazing to see them be so proud of themselves and work so hard!”
